Learn How to See Light

Photography is all about light and light is the object that gives mood and adds drama to the images. Without light, there will be no shadows and highlights. Together, shadows and highlights are what makes a photograph more interesting. Learning to see light as it falls on your subjects is an important skill aspiring photographers need to learn.

Different Light Sources

Shoot at a Lower Angle

Another important factor to be considered is the angle at which you are shooting. You should always remember to get to the level of the children you are photographing. Get into their world, engage with them by getting down on your hands or knees.

Composition
Composition is another important aspect of photography. Taking pictures of children from 4 feet or above does nothing but to make them look smaller than they already are. So what’s an ideal height or level when photographing children? There’s really no fix number here in terms of feet or meters. The key is “eye level”. Continue reading →

New Parent, New Passion

Congratulations! I believe one of the reasons why you found this blog is because either a) you’re a new parent or b) you are expecting your baby to be born soon. And I guess you must have just purchased a new digital or DSLR camera and you’re looking for tips on photographing your little one.

Well, you’ve come to the right place! I created this children photography blog, together with my wife, to help provide new parents with insightful tips on how to photograph children. You’re probably one of the few parents who just had a newfound passion in photography. I know it feels exciting as I had the same feeling two years ago when our first daugther was born.
